Jacinta Mc Glynn (Senior Reporter Travelbiz) recounts the adventures on Turkish Airlines & Tourist Authority of Thailand Fam trip where a lucky group of travel agents experienced the thrills of Bangkok and sampled the tastes and sights of this exotic corner of South East Asia.

A cruise on the mighty Chao Phraya river was a “toe in the water” (terrible pun, I know) to see local life along Bangkok’s main waterway. It is simply amazing how much we take for granted at home when houses here rely on stilts to keep flood waters at bay and they wave cheerily from the riverbank as they go about their daily chores of washing and preparing food and cooking. We pass the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Bangkok is awash with pagodas and temples, each more stunningly beautiful than one can imagine. Stupas are carved in intricate design; tiny ceramic tiles are lovingly inset in the walls; marble stairways seem to lead all the way to heaven and every crevice is painted and gilded. We stop at Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Breathtaking. Words do no justice to the architecture. Literally awesome. A visit is imperative. We enjoy dinner at the luxurious 5* Athenee Plaza. Our dining experience is sumptuous and our hosts are Thai, Belgian, Greek and Dutch. It was a truly international and lovely experience.
