British Airways and Barbados Tourist Board Fam to the Caribbean island of Barbados began in style with Tara Magee securing upgrades to British Airways Club World Business Class for nearly the whole of the Irish contingent. We dined in luxury with Scottish artisan smoked salmon to start, roasted fillet of British steak with sauteed wild mushrooms and Bordelaise sauce for main and chocolate and salted caramel mille-feuille as well as a cheese board followed. A glass of vino and some bubbles made a perfect recipe for an afternoon nap and ample legroom meant this was both comfortable and spacious. The last few hours of the 8.5-hour flight across the Atlantic allowed time to enjoy the onboard entertainment offering which included a host of recent releases.

Upon arrival, we were whisked away to Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels, located on the south of the island c.8km from the capital, Bridgetown. Set on the white sands, dotted with palm trees, it is a four-star, all-inclusive resort. This is off-season, with scattered showers the heat still reaches 30 degrees but with a refreshing breeze. The first night the hotel management and team from Barbados Tourist Board treated us to a buffet rich with Caribbean spices and rum chicken set on the beach which made for a mouthwatering meal.
