Ireland Win Celtic Cup

11th May 2018 - 12:50pm

Team Ireland

Team Ireland

Team Ireland won a closely fought contest in Mount Wolseley and lifted the Celtic cup for the third year in a row by a margin of 12 points to 6 over two great day’s golf and craic in County Carlow. Day one saw team Ireland and team UK battle it out in Carlow Golf club before moving to Mount Wolseley for singles day which saw all matches, bar one or two, go all the way to the 18th. Outgoing Captains Dermot Merrigan and Matt Bell did a great job and welcomed new captains to the tee box for 2019, Niall Mc Donnell and Keith Chuter of team Ireland and team UK. All 24 competitors from Ireland and the UK were the winners over the two days. Great Craic, comradery and friendships renewed is the real essence of the Celtic Cup. As the margin of victory for the Irish is narrowing every year we estimate Team UK will win the event in 2026 which will mean half the squad will be elsewhere, probably looking for Matt!
