Obeo Travel is thrilled to inform Travelbiz that the Icelandic authorities have announced Iceland’s borders are to open for all visitors on 15 June 2020.

Every arriving guest will have 3 choices: (a) quarantine for 2 weeks upon arrival; (b) Get tested at KEF airport and if the test is negative quarantine will not be applicable; (c) Produce a health certificate confirming negative results which needs to be approved by Icelandic health authorities.

Every arriving guest will also have to download an app which allows the Icelandic authorities to trace your community contact during your visit to Iceland.

Icelandic Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, says Iceland is capable of such testing and safety measures in order to open up the country. She also claims this is a good opportunity to enhance testing to study the virus further and that Iceland’s findings will be shared with the world.

Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation says: "When travelers return to Iceland we want to have all mechanisms in place to safeguard them and the progress made in controlling the pandemic. Iceland's strategy of large-scale testing, tracing and isolating have proven effective so far. We want to build on that experience of creating a safe place for those who want a change of scenery after what has been a tough spring for all of us."
