I learned of Bob's passing from an old colleague and friend who I golfed with in Portmarnock many years ago. Bob passed away peacefully on the 23rd of February in the wonderful care of the Bon Secours Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob Beatty was well known and loved by many in the travel industry. For me personally, I remember meeting Bob for the first time in the Thomas Cook store on Grafton Street making my way up the stairs to the executive floor to encourage Bob, Denis, Jimmy and the team to support Chieftain Tours flights with Air Canada from Dublin and Shannon to Toronto. It was one of those sales calls all the travel trade representatives looked forward to because of the warm welcome one would always receive from Bob and the team.

I used to meet Bob when he moved on from Thomas Cook to Beatty and Daly Travel on Liffey Street and in later years, following his retirement, walking along the Marina in Malahide where he loved to walk with his wife Barbara.

Bob was highly respected and regarded as one of our Industry icons who always had a strong and supportive opinion of how the Industry was moving, but above all, he was a genuinely nice guy, a true travel industry professional and will be sorely missed by us all.

On behalf of the Travelbiz team, our readers, followers and trade partners I would like to pass on our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Bob's loving wife Barbara, daughters Jennifer, Susan and Laura, sons-in-law Peter and Tom, daughter-in-law Sinead, his adored grandchildren Rebecca, Chloe, Luke, Isabel, Matthew and Harrison, extended family neighbours and friends.

Rest in Peace.
