Aer Lingus Taste of America - Shannon with a Splash

21st February 2020 - 1:30pm

It wouldn’t be a launch without a cake

The Aer Lingus Team organised an inaugural flight for their new A321 Neo, direct from Airbus’ factory floor. Travelbiz’s resident aviation nerd, Shane Cullen, along with a lucky few, boarded the plane at Dublin Airport and flew to Shannon. Upon arrival, the guests were welcomed with water cannons and had an arrival party at the gate - would anyone expect anything less from Mr. Declan Power (Head of Aviation Development Shannon Airport).

Patrick H. Cohan (Port Director US Homeland Security) gave a tour of Shannon’s sizable and state-of-the-art pre-clearance area. He stated one of the key perks with Shannon is that even at peak times the longest wait for passengers will be 8-10 minutes.

This plane will be flying the Shannon to New York route and, as an added bonus, Aer Lingus will be using the aircraft on the early morning Shannon to Heathrow route meaning there will be a lay-flat business class on the red-eye to London. Business Class is a 2-1 configuration and Shane’s travel tip is to book the single-seat if you’re travelling alone - sole passengers enjoy what feels more like a roomy first-class seat here.

The plane has very responsive touch screens with new releases, ample Disney movies including a sizable Marvel category. There is a significant media library and video games. Also, featured onboard, are multiple plug sockets and a USB port at every seat in Business and Economy.

Many thanks to Aer Lingus for organising and to the team at Shannon Airport for such welcoming hospitality. It was the only 20-minute flight Shane has been on but every minute was a joy.
