US Ambassador celebrates Independence Day

Don and Jacinta from Travelbiz attended the US Ambassador’s Residence in Dublin’s Phoenix Park as the venue for celebrating America’s Independence Day. Not quite hitting July 4th, we convened on July 8th instead and enjoyed a wonderful evening of festivities with Her Excellency, Claire Cronin, US Ambassador to Ireland. What a charismatic and engaging person!

Glorious sunshine elevated the event and the parade of guests in their finest garden party attire was hugely colourful. Several marquees on perfectly manicured lawns, endless food trucks, drinks stations and waiting staff darting about set the scene for a great night. H.E. Clare Cronin took to centre stage to introduce her family and she vowed that the wonderful partnership and warm relations experienced between Ireland and the US would continue and even grow exponentially. The Ambassador emphasised the importance of Ireland to the US, how our economies conjoin and, with 100 years of diplomatic relations behind us, she hoped for a further 100 years at least!

United Airlines were one of the sponsors of the evening and several travel personalities were spotted in the crowd. Government Ministers graced the lawns and various European Ambassadors strolled around. We were in good company. Michael Flatley provided excitement and flair when he took to the stage with a mini Riverdance tribute and multi-talented band, Abbasque, were simply brilliant and had the crowd dancing in the (grassy!) aisles! Oh, what a night…….
