Travelbiz’s roving reporter, Marian Benton, was delighted to attend lunch in the Shelbourne Hotel hosted by the Amadeus team of Neil Rogan (Head of Global External Communications) from Amadeus’ head office in Madrid, as well as Rob Golledge (Head of Corporate Communications) from their London office and of course, our own Olwen McKinney (Sales Manager Ireland). Invited guests represented corporate, retail and leisure travel companies, consortia and press.

Aer Lingus restart Hartford Connecticut

Aer Lingus is to restart its daily service to Hartford Connecticut direct from Dublin, as the airline continues to rebuild and grow its transatlantic network.
This follows the recent announcement of flights to Cleveland Ohio, which is a brand new north american destination for Aer Lingus and will be part of its summer 2023 schedule.
Hartford marks Aer Lingus’ 16th transatlantic route from Ireland and the 19th from the UK.
The daily service will resume from 26 March next year and will be a critical milestone for Bradley International Airport as Aer Lingus will operate its only direct service to Europe.

In a major boost for Shannon Airport, United Airlines announced it will operate a new daily nonstop seasonal service from Chicago to Shannon next summer 2023.
The new service will commence on 26th May ‘23, departing Shannon daily at 09:30am on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft for Chicago O’Hare International Airport, a major US hub.
Commenting on the new service Martina Coogan (United Country Sales Manager Ireland) said: “As the only U.S. airline to offer direct flights from Shannon, we are excited to announce this further expansion of our route network from Ireland to the U.S.”.

Two New Routes for Shannon with third based Ryanair Aircraft.

There has been another boost for Shannon Airport as Ryanair announced two new routes and a third based aircraft, which will create an additional 30 direct jobs at the Airport.
Two exciting new destinations to Béziers in the South of France and Newcastle in the UK will begin operating from Shannon in summer 2023. The new twice weekly Béziers service will run Mondays and Saturdays from the 27th March ‘23 and a Newcastle service will run three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 26th of March ‘23.

Barbados ends all Covid related travel protocols

As of midnight on 22 September 2022, all COVID-19-related travel protocols ended in Barbados.
Whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, there are no testing requirements to enter Barbados.
The wearing of masks, in general, will now become optional with the exception of select areas, including healthcare facilities. Mask wearing remains mandatory for those with active COVID-19.
