The Chancery: Step Inside Dublin 8’s Newest Hotel

#Traveltradetogether

The Chancery opened its doors on Ship Street Great in 2024, and Travelbiz recently had the pleasure of experiencing this distinguished property. The Chancery is a new independent, Irish-owned, 150-bedroom luxury hotel that represents a sophisticated addition to Dublin’s 4-star hotel scene. Situated in the heart of Dublin 8, the hotel provides an ideal location for guests to explore a vibrant and unique neighbourhood rich with cultural offerings from Dublin City. The area boasts historic landmarks, local artisan food producers, fashion designers, and artists, making it one of the most dynamic and developing quarters of the city.

Dublin 8 is renowned for its rich culture and history associated with the city’s creative community. Ship Street Great has long-standing Italian heritage, once known as “Little Italy” due to Italian migrants who settled there in the late 1800s.

The hotel draws deeply from the creativity and historical context of its neighbourhood, incorporating locally reclaimed stone and bespoke commissioned art to reflect Dublin’s story and its iconic characters. The Fawn Restaurant offers seasonal dishes inspired by the area’s Italian heritage, while the hotel’s biophilic design sources foliage from local suppliers, creating a lush sanctuary in the city’s core.

A design-led and locally inspired establishment, the property features Philippe Starck furniture and reclaimed Connemara marble throughout, offering guests a stylish and elevated stay. Each bedroom is meticulously designed with both function and comfort in mind, providing guests with a personal haven within the city.

Rooms are appointed in a calm, minimalist style using natural, sustainable materials, including handcrafted furniture and herringbone hardwood floors. Some skyline rooms and suites provide guests with exceptional views of Dublin, including direct vistas of Dublin Castle and the broader cityscape.

Modern conveniences include electronically controlled curtains, blackout blinds, air conditioning, automated mood and functional lighting—all managed through user-friendly panels in each room to maximize guest comfort. Guests can expect a restful night’s sleep on superior quality Irish-made King Koil mattresses under luxury high-thread-count cotton linens. VOTARY skincare amenities, exclusive to The Chancery in Ireland, enhance the bespoke bathroom experience.

The hotel’s restaurant, Fawn, opens onto a breathtaking walled garden, designed by award-winning Jane McCorkell. Inspired by the River Poddle, the garden creates a serene enclave at the hotel’s centre, celebrating Dublin’s history while immersing guests in nature.

The Bar at The Chancery offers a warm and cosy setting, featuring beautiful Connemara marble fittings and luxurious seating. Guests can enjoy views of the lamplit, cobbled streets of Ship Street Great, evoking the charm of old Dublin from the 1800s.

Operating on a Completely Fossil Fuel Free Basis

This luxury hotel experience considers all aspects of guest comfort and convenience. Utilizing the latest sustainable technologies, the hotel’s day-to-day operations reflect a commitment to sustainability, operating entirely fossil fuel-free. The property has achieved LEED Gold status, a leading standard in green building ratings, and is Green Tourism Certified.

In addition to environmental stewardship, the hotel prioritizes guest well-being with a wellness hub that includes a hammam steam room, sauna, and state-of-the-art gym.

Located just meters from The Dublin Royal Convention Centre and The Printworks at Dublin Castle, The Chancery offers a dedicated boardroom seating sixteen delegates, equipped with an 85-inch LED screen and multimedia functionality. Several private acoustic meeting pods for 2-4 people are also available. The hotel aims to become a key part of the Dublin 8 area as a new international meeting and digital hub in Dublin City.

“We have upheld three core values throughout every step of creating this new hotel—community, sustainability, and exceeding guest expectations. These values are inherent in all aspects of the hotel, from the art on the walls telling Dublin’s story to the sensor-operated lighting conserving energy, to the glass-fronted suites on the top floor overlooking Dublin’s iconic skyline.”

The Chancery, now open at 21 Ship Street Great, Dublin 8, offers a selection of rooms and suites starting at €230. Booking and further information are available online at  www.TheChanceryHotel.ie.
