Northern Lights meet City Heights: Finnair announces route to Toronto

The Nordic airline will relaunch flights to Canada on 4 May 2026.

The Helsinki to Toronto connection marks the only direct flight between Finland and Canada.

Leading Nordic airline, Finnair, is taking to the skies with its transatlantic expansion next summer, having named Toronto as its newest destination in North America.

Set to launch on 4 May 2026, the connection will bridge Finnair’s home hub, Helsinki, with Toronto, Canada’s largest city and a global leader in business, finance, technology, entertainment, and culture.

The service will operate three times per week during the summer season, with flights operated by the airline’s fleet of Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

Flights are scheduled to depart Helsinki each Monday, Wednesday and Sunday at 16:50, arriving into the cool Canadian city just under nine hours later, at 18:35 local time.

On the return, flights will depart Toronto Pearson each Monday, Wednesday and Sunday at 23:40, arriving into the Finnish capital at 14:45 the following afternoon.

The route marks the first time Finnair will have flown to Canada in over a decade, having last served Toronto in 2015.

Toronto attracts millions of visitors each year with its rich mix of attractions and experiences. From the iconic CN Tower – the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere – to world-class museums and a thriving culinary scene, Toronto offers something for every type of traveller.

Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Toronto also serves as a gateway to natural wonders – including the world-famous Niagara Falls just a short trip away.

Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director UK & Ireland, said: “As we look ahead to 2026, we are excited to be re-adding Canada to our extensive network, with the addition of flights between Helsinki and Toronto from May next year.

“Canada is fast becoming one of the most popular long-haul destinations for European travellers, so we are confident that this route will prove a hit with both business and leisure travellers heading across the Atlantic.

“The move also reinforces our commitment to the North American market, alongside our existing core network in Europe and Asia.”

This is the second new route Finnair has announced for 2026, with its latest Norwegian destination, Alta, announced just a few weeks ago. Nicknamed the ‘City of Northern Lights’, Alta will join Finnair’s extensive Nordic network on 29 March 2026, when flights will launch from the airline’s home hub, Helsinki.
