Minister of State Naughton announces approval of €10 million in exchequer funding towards Cork Airport runway reconstruction, which has been awarded to Colas Limited.

  • Runway project a major part of a €40+ million investment in Cork Airport 2020-2022
  • Minister of State Naughton approves €10 million of State funding to the rebuilding of the main runway at Cork Airport under Government supports to State Airports.
  • Over 250 construction jobs to be created onsite and in the supply chain during the runway construction project
  • Cork Airport remains open for summer traffic serving Ryanair, Aer Lingus, KLM, Lufthansa, Swiss and Air France routes until close of business Sunday, September 12.
  • Cork Airport closing to undertake major runway reconstruction for 10 weeks from September 13 to November 22 and will reopen for the busy Christmas season.

The reconstruction of Cork Airport’s main runway will be the fastest large scale construction project undertaken in the State in recent years, 12 months from funding approval to the completion of the main works, encompassing EU tendering, design, regulatory approvals and construction.
