For sports fans heading to Australia this summer, check out these top tips from Emirates to make the trip even better

#Traveltradetogether

There’s never been so much interest in flights to Australia than there is this summer so, if you’re planning on heading down under in July or August, along with thousands of other Irish sports fans, Emirates has some top tips to help you fly better.

Whether you’re heading to Sydney, Perth or Brisbane, or all three, check out the flight times, details of great places to visit, the weather in each city and don’t forget, if you’re travelling to Australia, you will need to obtain an eVisitor Visa, which you can apply for Here.

Sydney

Flight time from Dublin to Sydney via Dubai is just short of 23 hours. Emirates’ top tip is to set your watch to Sydney time as you depart Dubai, as this allows you to start aligning your body clock with the destination’s time zone, which can help combat potential jetlag.

Sydney is a city that is renowned for its amazing food and cosmopolitan lifestyle. In this, the capital of New South Wales, tourists can experience iconic city landmarks like the beautiful Harbour Bridge and the architecturally astounding Sydney Opera House, along with the verdant Royal Botanic Gardens.  One of the biggest cities in Australia, there’s an abundance of activities to enjoy and, of course, no visit to Sydney would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Bondi Beach.

Weather check:  Although you’ll be landing in Sydney in the middle of winter, you’re unlikely to need your winter woolies as the average temperature hits at around 13°C. It tends to be dry and there’s still a chance of sunshine – not dissimilar to autumn in Ireland.

Perth

Flight time from Dublin to Perth, via Dubai is just over twenty hours. Flight times between Sydney and Perth is only 3 hours.  Australia’s sunniest capital city of Perth / Boorloo offers is framed by the Swan River, home to one of the world’s largest inner-city parks. The city boasts 19 pristine beaches and beautiful Indian Ocean sunsets. With its clear blue skies and Mediterranean climate, Perth is a dream destination year-round and is home to the Swan Valley, Western Australia’s oldest wine region – just one of the effortless day trips to enjoy within an hour from the central business district.

eather check: The winter months in Perth are its wettest and temperatures average between 17°C and 11°C with a nice breeze.

Brisbane

Flight time between Dublin and Brisbane, via Dubai, is 23 hours, 5 minutes while a flight between Perth and Brisbane will only take 4 hours and 20 minutes. Widely recognised as one of Australia’s hippest cities, Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and Australia’s third most populated city. While sport might be the primary reason for your visit, don’t miss out on an opportunity to take in Brisbane’s bustling and trendy streets filled with cafés, art galleries and nightclubs. Experience Australian culture firsthand by visiting the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art or more interactive exhibitions in the Queensland Museum or Sciencentre.

Weather check: A very pleasant time to visit with temperatures averaging 20°C but with a strong chance of them hitting 29°C.  But in addition to t-shirts and shorts, Emirates recommends you bring your rain jacket too, as the city experiences its highest rainfall levels during July and August.

If you’re visiting all three cities, you might want to pack for all seasons.  But, with a baggage allowance of 30kg in Economy Class and 40kg in Business Class, you will have plenty of room to pack all the holiday essentials, and more.

Emirates operates two flights daily between Dublin and Dubai and onwards to four cities across Australia; Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.  Onboard, passengers will enjoy up to 6,500 channels of entertainment with Emirates inflight system, ice, regionally inspired onboard cuisine and there’s even free Wi-Fi in the sky for Skywards members.

Emirates also operates a codeshare agreement with Qantas meaning that Emirates customers can choose many more Australian and New Zealand destinations across the Qantas network. So if you’re travelling within Australia or onwards to New Zealand, you can connect with ease and more information is available HERE.
