Finnair celebrates five years of its Platinum Wing lounge with stylish sauna

The airline’s iconic lounge, featuring traditional Finnish sauna, opened in summer 2019.

Finnair is celebrating five years since the launch of its exclusive Platinum Wing in Helsinki, with the lounge having opened in summer 2019.

The iconic lounge, open to Finnair and oneworld’s top tier customers, continues to set the bar in premium air travel, offering travellers the option to drink, dine, and unwind, before taking to the skies.

Finnair’s Nordic inspired lounge features dedicated zones for working, relaxing, and dining, and offers seating for up to 155 customers at any time. With comfortable sofas and cosy armchairs, the lounge resembles a homely living room atmosphere, bringing a sense of serenity to the airport experience.

The lounge’s traditional Finnish sauna remains one of its most unique hallmarks, a feature present in only a handful of airport lounges globally. Lined in darkened natural aspen wood, it replicates the authentic Finnish sauna experience, with a cooling area, organic skin care amenities, and natural mood lighting to ensure a calming environment.

In a nod to its Nordic routes, Finnair’s Platinum Wing also has a dedicated à la carte dining area, combining local ingredients with delicious flavours from Asia.

Alongside traditional firm favourites, customers can also enjoy Finnair’s ‘Reindeer Burger’, made from locally sourced smoked reindeer and beef, with this firm-favourite having been on the menu since 2019.

Vegan and vegetarian options include a range of specially curated dishes, including Finnair’s ‘Beyond Burger’, made from locally sourced plant-based ingredients.

For those looking to enjoy a few snacks and a top-flight tipple, the lounge features an upscale bar, featuring an extensive selection including vintage champagne, fine wines, beers, spirits, featured summer cocktails, mocktails and barista coffee.

Meri Järvinen, Head of Airport Customer Experience, said: “As one of Finnair’s trademark features, the Platinum Wing has been a hit since its launch five years ago, giving customers a final taste of Finland before take-off.

“Having sown the seed for premium Nordic travel back in summer 2019, we have since launched newly designed Business Class lounges in both the Schengen and non-Schengen areas of Helsinki Airport, as we continue to invest in the ground experience for our loyal customers.”

The spacious Platinum Wing lounge is located in Helsinki Airport’s non-Schengen zone, making it convenient for customers heading to the UK & Ireland or Finnair’s Far East and North American destinations.

The lounge is for the exclusive use of Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo and Platinum members, as well as oneworld Emerald cardholders, while Finnair’s adjacent non-Schengen Business Lounge is open to oneworld Sapphire cardholders, Finnair Plus Gold members and those travelling on Business Class Classic and Flex tickets.

This anniversary coincides with the opening of Finnair’s new Schengen Lounge in Helsinki Airport on 9 July. Designed to bring unparalleled comfort and convenience to customers, the new lounge has been crafted based on customer feedback and inspired by Finnair’s Nordic design language and comforting colour scheme.

With seating for up to 440 customers, the newly designed Schengen lounge is set to leave customers feeling runway ready, with unparalleled views of Helsinki Airport.

Based on customer feedback, the lounge also features an exclusive Platinum Corner for Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members, and oneworld Emerald cardholders, to enjoy.
