Caceres Irish Fleadh at Spanish Embassy
It’s true. The stunning medieval city of Caceres in the Province of Extremadura in western Spain hosts an amazing traditional music festival each September. Connecting with Irish musicians, dancers and performers, Spanish musicians cement their Celtic roots and form a special bond between our two nations.

Ireland’s Ambassador, her Excellency, Sra Marie Teresa Lizarnzu, invited a select number of guests to her beautiful residence in Dublin’s Ballsbridge last night and spoke fondly of the strong historical, cultural and artistic connections between Spain and Ireland. Sra Lara Pena (Director of Spanish TO Dublin) and Sr Cristian Font Calderon (Deputy Head of Mission) were also in attendance. All made reference to the support from Instituto Cervantes and sponsorship from O’Hara’s beers.

The Paidi’s (Pipes and Drums in Ireland) from Limerick played rousing tunes and dancers, harpists, fiddlers and accordion and banjo players added to the warm and wonderful atmosphere. The lovely gardens and Embassy grounds of Dublin 4 were alive last night. I think Caceres in Spain next September will be the place to be. The Armagh Rhymers are due to perform too, so this festival of ancient traditions and marvellous music will surely be music to our ears!
