The Portuguese National Tourist Office and TAP Air Portugal hosted a 4 night press trip for Irish travel writers to the island of Madeira and Travelbiz Features Editor and intrepid traveller Declan Mescall was the only travel trade publication represented.

Susana Cardoso (Director Portuguese NTO Ire.) was at Dublin Airport to wave off the group and Ricardo Dinis (Area Sales Manager UK&I TAP Air Portugal) accompanied the party. The media group were upgraded at the gate to the front of the aircraft and enjoyed the extra legroom, vacant middle seat and excellent onboard service which included a delicious meal with refreshments served by a very hospitable, friendly and professional crew. The connection through Lisbon airport is stress-free.

Portuguese flag carrier full-service airline, TAP, is a member of Star Alliance and flies twice daily from Dublin to Lisbon with onward connections to Madeira International Airport at Funchal (FNC). The airport is named after the Famed Madeiran football player Cristiano Ronaldo.  TAP Air Portugal currently operates over 2,800 weekly flights with a fleet of 90 aircraft to 87 destinations in 34 countries and on average receives 3 new aircraft each month. On their DUB-LIS-FNC route, they offer Business Class and Economy cabin services.

As the Portuguese Tourist Board is anxious to promote Madeira as an all year-round destination for Irish holidaymakers looking for an action packed vacation in the sun, they put together a great itinerary promoting a range of outdoor pursuit adventure activities including mountain biking, dolphin & whale watching, hiking along Levada trails and canyoning.
