Travel Agents deliver petition to Leinster House

17th September 2020 - 12:30pm

Petition delivered with over 6,200 signatures.

Don Shearer (Travelbiz) joined the Trade delegation representing all travel agents in Ireland last week at the gates of Leinster house where Linda Jones (The Travel Boutique), Linda Mc Namara (Ace Travel), Tom Britton (Marble City Travel), Deirdre Murphy (Hillary Murphy Travel), John Galligan (John Galligan Travel) and Mary Mc Kenna (Tour America) joined fellow agents and colleagues from all over the country to deliver their petition to support and save 3,500 jobs that are at risk as a result of the pandemic, and resulting loss of revenue in the sector.

The coverage received on the day and during the course of the week was incredible with RTE, Today FM, FM104, 98FM, Virgin Media and trade media partner Travelbiz, reporting and supporting our Industry on the day. Only 15 retail representatives were permitted to hand over the petition in line with the current health and safety protocols on the day.

It was great to see this level of solidarity and engagement with government ministers at the gates of Leinster house where a number of ministers took questions and listened to the plight of all concerned in the sector. Linda Jones, Linda Mc Namara, Tom Britton, James Flemming, Mary McKenna, Jeff Collins and a number of other agents were interviewed by the media which featured on RTE news at one and Six one on the day.
