Topflights' VIP Fam trip to Mayrhofen - Day 1 and 2
13th January 2018 - 1:00pm
Shauna Kelly and Maurice Shiels (Topflight) report from on and off the slopes for Travelbiz readers to enjoy from their recent VIP Agents ski trip to Mayrhofen.
On arrival in Munich airport we were met by our transport and taken straight to Hotel Strass in Mayrhofen. We were greeted at the hotel by Gina our resort rep, bags were dropped off and it was straight for some refreshments and a bite to eat and then on to collect our ski gear. There were a lot of laughs whilst everyone in the group was fitted for skis, boots, poles and helmets in advance of the first day of skiing on Wednesday. We then made our way to the Mayrhofen ice rink for some skating in the falling snow. Naturally a snowball fight began with the local children doing their utmost to keep Maurice on the ice and en masse pelting him with snowballs. Finally we went for a lovely dinner in the Hotel Strass and Gina brought us on a little visit around the town and to check out some of the local bars
The fun began with breakfast and then the ski dressing preparation. There were quite a few funny faces and questions about the comfort level and size of the boots and how were we going to manage with big skis also. With everyone now fully ready for the off and lift passes in hand it was time to take the short stroll around the corner to the Penken lifts. Again there was lots of wobbles and laughs trying to get all the gear and the people in the one lift. The upwards climb began and the views were amazing especially with mounds of fresh snow following a night of snow fall. We were met by our two ski instructors, one for the beginners, one for the intermediates and away we went in our groups. Angela stayed with the beginners group to ensure she caught all the special moments on camera despite the group initially thinking she was coming to help pick them up. The intermediate group took the chairlift to the next level and started our lesson. We all met for lunch in Pilzbar and shared in some typical Tyrolean food and the start of the stories from the morning’s lesson. It was time for afternoon lessons and again we went our separate ways with the assigned ski instructors. There were some tired legs by this point with wobbles for extra fun in this session. It was back to Pilzbar to enjoy some Apres Ski fun before dinner. Again we had to visit some local bars and try out a game of nails, darts and some local Schnapps.
