The Travel Corporation had its eagerly anticipated Christmas lunch in Dublin’s city centre with fifty guests invited from across the travel industry. There are no supplier stands, leaflets or pens. It’s a fabulous meal at a fantastic restaurant with equally wonderful company. It is a chance to relax, reflect on the year and catch up with old friends with equally vintage wine.

Along St. Stephen’s Green, near the top of a very festive Grafton Street is one of the fanciest restaurants in Dublin. You wouldn’t know it, it is subtly nestled in a Georgian house on a stretch of similarly styled buildings. It is, of course, Shanahan’s on the Green. And much like The Travel Corporation, it is exuberant, classy and subtle.

Sharon Jordan explained, “The Travel Corporation is the largest travel company you have never heard of and that’s because the trade is at the heart of everything we do”.

To acknowledge best performances, a number of awards were handed out:

Trailfinders - Two awards: Best Luxury Gold and Best Insight Vacations

Sunway - Best Trafalgar

American Holidays - Best Costsaver

Killiney Travel Centre - Best Uniworld

Fahy Travel - Best U River Cruises

Sharon also commented on the significant efforts made towards environmental sustainability with the elimination of single-use plastic in TTC’s offices, ships and hotels. Furthermore, TTC has put pressure on its supply chain to do the same. They have paperless offices across the world and no longer send out tickets. Instead, customers can request their ticket. For every ticket they do not print, they plant a tree. With a staggering 1.7 million having travelled with TTC last year, Sharon rightly points out “that’s a heck of a load of trees”. Even the menus were printed on seeded paper so guests could bring them home, plant them and welcome a surprise next spring!

The memories of the afternoon will last longer than springtime. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, drinks and despite leaving at a civilised 11 pm, there were plenty with energy to continue the night into the wee hours of the morning. As you would expect from Sharon, Brian and the TTC team, they were exceptional hosts.
