The Sky Princess reached Montenegro’s coastline and anchored in a bay overlooking the cliffs of Mount Lovcen. Tenders transported guests to Kotor, a medieval town surrounding the port where we docked. Travelbiz’s Shane Cullen boarded the hassle-free tender to port which took less than 5 minutes.

Arriving at 9am, there were a full seven hours to avail of the excursions on offer from Princess Cruises: walking tours, visit cathedrals and museums, sample local cheeses and wine, try kayaking in the bay or a host of other adventures that can be booked ahead of departure or via your Medallion App. Alternatively, you can leisurely explore the winding cobbled streets and squares of this historic town under your own steam. You can take an hour out of your time and book a local boat trip from as little as €10. Equally, enjoying the mid-20 degree heat, availing of some retail bargains or sipping an espresso under a parasol in one of the old town squares brings you a million miles away from home.

Boarding was equally easy and was followed by a Champagne reception at the Sky Suites, of which there are two onboard. These have the longest wrap around balconies at sea at over 1,000 sq-ft and boast a 270-degree panorama view. These suites have a dedicated Suite Experience Manager and provide a private vantage of the shop’s top deck Movies Under the Stars cinema screen. They sleep up to five guests and have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a dining area. There are a host of premium perks and the only downside is that these are nearly fully booked already for the entire 2020 season.

All of the cabin types are beautifully decorated in neutral tones and have a contemporary feel. The general consensus from the Irish contingent was the very high quality of the beds (Shane would strongly agree). There were enquiries to purchase mattresses and pillows by more than one - a testament to the superb standard. Having viewed all the cabin types Shane’s personal favourite is the Deluxe Oceanview staterooms (6 onboard) which are very spacious with floor to ceiling windows and are very competitively priced.

My favourite cabin type, the huge Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with floor to ceiling windows. Amazingly, these are priced less than a standard balcony. Only 6 onboard so book early!
