90 years of flying: Aer Lingus’ oldest aircraft takes to the skies again

Aer Lingus is marking 90 years of flying as it unveils its newly-restored Iolar aircraft. EI-ABI, known as Iolar (Irish for eagle), is a rare de Havilland DH.84 Dragon, which dates back to 1936. The aircraft will today fly from Dublin to Bristol, recreating Aer Lingus’ inaugural flight of 27 May 1936

More than half a million passengers are set to pass through Dublin Airport over the upcoming June bank holiday weekend.
Over the four-day period between Friday and Monday, a total of 503,000 passengers are forecast to fly in and out of the airport, including many thousands of tourists and visitors travelling to Ireland.

The airport is expecting this weekend to be the busiest of the year to date as the summer holiday travel period gets into full swing.  The figures point to continued strong demand and a solid start to the summer travel season at the airport, with over 2 million seats to and from Shannon Airport this summer.
