Festas & Easter
23rd November 2022 - 11:56am

Easter is a time of celebration in Malta. Churches are lavishly decorated and are beautifully lit up in the evenings. The magnificent Easter ceremonies, processions and parades on Good Friday and Easter Sunday are not to be missed.
In addition two of the most famous processions take place on Good Friday in Qormi and on Good Friday and Easter Sunday in Vittoriosa. Many Maltese participate and re-enact Biblical scenes in costumes. On Easter Sunday in particular, a happy and exuberant atmosphere covers the island.
Festas; akin to large festival like street parties take place every Summer in each town with fireworks, delicacies and marching bands adding to the incredible atmosphere. Each locality has their own patron saints with a band club for every saint, which is responsible for the organisation, decorations, and fireworks outside of the church. Sometimes Festas clash with multiple localities such as the feast of Santa Maria taking place in 9 different towns on 15th August. Next time you go to Malta make sure to ask the locals for this unique experience.
