Enda Corneille (Country Manager Emirates) held a media briefing in the Merrion Hotel Dublin at which he said Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, has been in existence for 33 years and is celebrating its 30th consecutive year of profit and steady business expansion. Profit for year ending 31st March 2018 was US$1.1 billion, up 67% from last year while carrying over 59 million pax. Emirates’ inaugural flight on the Dublin-Dubai route took off on 9th January 2012 and in the almost 6.5 years since, the airline has gone from strength to strength in the Irish market and has carried 2.1million pax on the route. Emirates operate a double daily service from Dublin and is the only airline flying from Ireland direct to Dubai.

The one millionth pax landmark was reached in December 2015 and in the ensuing two years, Emirates doubled that figure, carrying up to 22,000 customers each month from Dublin to Dubai and onwards to almost 160 destinations in 85 countries and territories including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali and India. Emirates celebrated its two millionth passenger on the route in December 2017 and expects to hit the 2.5 million mark within the next 10 months. Last year the airline increased its capacity on the route by 6% but grew traffic by 9% and achieved an average load factor of a little over 80%. Enda attributes Emirates success in the Irish market to its substantial route network, excellent product, service and customer satisfaction, combined with a locally based team dedicated to the route. 555 Irish nationals work for Emirates across its network and is currently recruiting 150 Irish cabin crew and pilots.
