Sky Princess celebrated her Christening with over thirty Irish travel agents and Shane Cullen (Travelbiz) boarding in the beautiful port of Trieste, north east Italy (2 hours from Venice). Embarkation was seamless with Princess Cruises’ new Medallion Class Smartphone App and Ocean Medallion (rolling out to the majority of the fleet in the next year). Prepopulating passport and travel details allow you to embark and disembark with a scan of the Ocean Medallion taking moments (paper check-in still available).

The Medallion allows you to unlock your cabin with your photo appearing on the screen by the door as your approach. Syncing with your smart device, this Medallion and linked App allows you to order drinks, food and even sunscreen to be delivered to your cabin or wherever you are on the ship. It also enables you to locate others (ideal for tracking teenagers!!). Equally, this provides the staff with photos and names of passengers as they serve - ideal for personalised service with greetings on a first name basis always a special touch. This is futuristic technology working seamlessly.

The group dined in The Salty Dog Grill situated poolside (voted the best pizza at sea by Time Out Magazine). Rebecca Kelly and her team hosted cocktails ahead of sailing out of port. The Irish contingent were warmly welcomed on board by Captain Heikki and his crew. Jan Swartz (President Princess Cruises) met and mingled with passengers as the group enjoyed the Captain’s Champagne Celebration, an impressive Champagne waterfall for the guests.

Guests enjoyed the debut of Princess Cruises specially commissioned show ‘Rock Opera’ featuring an eight-piece live orchestra and exceptional singers and dancers performing iconic rock songs. The musical selection spanned classic rock, opera and musical theatre and included special guest, Brian Justin Crum (Broadway performer with credits including Wicked & Grease and finalist on America’s Got Talent: The Champions). This was impressive visually and musically and the group was fully entertained. Shane was blown away by the talent and the incredible standard giving the term ‘cruise ship entertainer’ a whole new accolade. There is also the Princess Live Theatre where you can grab the microphone, stand centre-stage and belt out a tune of your choosing! The Irish trade showed-off their skills!

In the pipeline is ‘Inspired Silliness’ which will debut on Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. This show recreates the earlier works of the legendary puppeteer, Jim Henson, the man behind The Muppets and Fraggle Rock! Guests got a sneak-peak at the performance which features a handful of feathers with googly eyes singing and dancing - it was captivating and brought a smile to every face in the room. The finished production will definitely be a must-see attraction.
