A Warm Southern Welcome: Spotlight on Savannah and the Low Country

Travelbiz at the 153rd Open hosted by Jo Piani and Luca Piani from Luna PR & Marketing, representing Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Visit Savannah.

What a fantastic day we had with our valued partners Jo and Luca Piani, who proudly represent Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Visit Savannah here in Ireland. Under clear skies and alongside world-class golf at Royal Portrush, we enjoyed outstanding hospitality in a setting that perfectly reflected the Southern warmth Savannah is known for.

The day offered a wonderful opportunity to meet our gracious hosts: Stephen Green, Chairman of Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, and Mindy Shea Frazer, Director of Sales for Visit Savannah. Both Stephen and Mindy—working closely with Jo and Luca—share strong Irish connections and are passionate about welcoming more Irish visitors to Savannah, Hilton Head Island, Brunswick, Bluffton, the Golden Isles, and other destinations across Coastal Georgia and the Low Country.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, under Stephen’s leadership, has been recognized as one of the top airports in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. The team is eager to see expanded international connectivity and would love to welcome direct service from Ireland—perhaps even from Aer Lingus. Watch this space!

As for Savannah itself—it’s a city that effortlessly blends Southern charm, rich history, and natural beauty. With cobblestone streets, moss-draped oaks, and exquisitely preserved antebellum architecture, it offers a timeless experience. Visitors can wander through its historic district, explore the hauntingly beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery, and relax in the city’s iconic squares. From riverfront dining and vibrant arts to ghost tours and Civil War history, Savannah promises something special for every traveller.
