The lucky Cork agents were wined and dined at the centrally located Metropole Hotel, and then the following day it was on to Limerick where the trade was hosted in the fabulous Pery Square in Limerick City Centre.
The City of Durban plays host to Indaba
Once again, the City of Durban plays host to Africa’s Travel Indaba. The word Indaba means a meeting to discuss a serious topic. Indaba is an iconic African leisure trade show owned by our hosts South African Tourism. It’s a 4-day trade show attended by more than 6,000 delegates, including 1,000 international buyers from over 63 countries globally and 1,000 exhibitors showcasing 350 products with a remarkable 21,000 meetings secured between exhibitors and international buyers.
Congratulations Clare Dunne – New CEO of the ITAA
The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) announced that it has appointed former ITAA President Clare Dunne as its new CEO. Dunne’s appointment follows the retirement of Pat Dawson. She will assume the role at the start of July.
Visitors to Malta from Ireland increases in the first quarter of 2023
The Malta Tourism Authority has announced that visitors from Ireland to Malta has increased significantly for the first quarter of the year (January - March 2023), when compared to the same time in 2019 and 2020.
January - March 2023 saw 9600 people travel to Malta from Ireland, compared to 6517 in 2019 and 7741 in 2020.
The success follows on from the new Ryanair route to Malta from Shannon Airport which was launched in March 2022. This is in addition to the Ryanair route from Dublin Airport.
Trade and Media partners Celebrate Wideroe Airlines launch in the Norwegian Embassy
Marian (Travelbiz) attended the Norwegian Ambassador's Residence in Dublin where Her Excellency Mari Skare hosted a reception for trade and press to celebrate the launch of the new direct Wideroe flight from Dublin to Bergen and to present information on Bergen, Fjord Norway and Northern Norway, all easily accessed from Bergen.
Ambassador Skare welcomed everyone and said how delighted she is that Wideroe have chosen Dublin Bergen as their newest route as she feels the Irish have much in common with the Norwegians.
