The Shannon Airport Group Wins Double at the Green Awards 2026

Award winner in both the Green Public Sector Organisation of the Year and Green Large Organisation of the Year categories.

The Shannon Airport Group has been named winner of not one, but two, Green Awards: Green Public Sector Organisation of the Year and Green Large Organisation of the Year, which were announced last night at a ceremony in Dublin.

The Green Awards are considered one of the premier platforms for celebrating excellence in sustainability across Ireland and acknowledge organisations that are leading the way in environmental innovation, sustainable business practices and climate action.

Commenting on the double win, Sinead Murphy, Head of Sustainability at The Shannon Airport Group said: “We’re really delighted, and honoured, to have won both Green Awards last night. 2025 was an important year for us as we made significant strides across all aspects of our sustainability strategy.
We continued to reduce carbon emissions which saw the airport achieve Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation last month. We launched our Solar PV farm, which will supply up to 20% of the airport’s annual electricity needs, and we continued to enhance biodiversity and integrate circular economy principles.

We’re very proud of that work and to have it recognised on a national platform, among other strong and respected fellow nominees, is really appreciated. I’d like to say a big thank you to our sustainability team and to colleagues across the entire Group for making sustainability a core part of their everyday working life.”

This year’s Green Awards had a record-breaking 300+ entries. The Shannon Airport Group was selected ahead of strong competition from organisations across both categories including Gas Networks Ireland, Calor, Roadstone, DAA, Eirgrid and Waterways Ireland among others.

This latest success marks a strong start to 2026 for The Shannon Airport Group and builds on an impressive 2025, during which it won the Operational Excellence award at the Aviation Industry Awards and the Environment & Biodiversity award at the Chambers Ireland Awards. The Group also celebrated Shannon Airport retaining its position as Ireland’s top airport brand for the third consecutive year in the RED C Brand Reaction Index (BRI) Ireland 2025.
