The Most Popular Holiday Destinations of 2024

Lanzarote, Rome, and New York #1 choice by holiday type for Click&Go tourists with exceptional growth from Regional Irish Airports.

It’s been a bumper year for international travel from Ireland, with the most popular holiday destinations being Lanzarote, Rome, and New York, as revealed by the latest Click&Go Holidays data. The online travel agent disclosed the ten most popular tourism spots by different holiday types in 2024, and this year’s booking trends for 2025 are likely to follow similar trends.

Overall, travel from Ireland kept growing in 2024, showing an upward movement of almost 11% according to Click&Go Holidays, Ireland’s highest ranked travel agent on Trust Pilot. The growth was seen across the three main Irish airports.

Growth was highest amongst the regional airports, with Cork and Shannon attracting more capacity and new routes in 2024, as airlines did what they could to manage the passenger cap in Dublin Airport. Click&Go Holidays recorded an increase of 35% from Cork and 41% from Shannon between 2023 and 2024. Shannon, for example, expects to have seen 2.1m travelers in 2024, and further predicts this to increase to 2.2m in 2025.

So where did Irish holidaymakers choose to go? Lanzarote was the most frequently booked destination for two categories, taking the number one spot in adult holidays and family holidays alike. Indeed, the island is very popular for Irish holidaymakers, with over 300,000 tourists from Ireland visiting Lanzarote between January and October of 2024, second only to tourists from the United Kingdom, according to Centro de Datos Lanzarote.

Costa del Sol was also very popular, with over 45,000 Irish tourists staying in hotels or apartments between January and March 2024, as per a report from Costa del Sol Tourism and Planning. According to Click&Go Holidays, Costa del Sol was one of the most popular holiday destinations for adults and families, along with Gran Canaria and Algarve.

Meanwhile, Click&Go Holidays data also revealed that those who chose City Breaks in 2024 mostly travelled to Rome, Amsterdam, Budapest, Prague, and Porto. Dreaming of the big skies and even bigger cities of the United States? The top USA Getaways for 2024 were revealed to be New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, Nashville, and Boston, according to Click&Go Holidays data. Las Vegas was the route with the highest growth in 2024 (81%), on the back of the new direct Aer Lingus route from Dublin, which kicked off in October 2024.

Paul Hackett, CEO of Click&Go Holidays, says: “For me, the key trend to note from 2024 is that when new routes and more capacity are added, the market will follow. This is seen in growth rates from Cork and Shannon, as well as the growth on the Dublin/Las Vegas route. In terms of growth, we also saw real movement on the routes to Marrakesh and Malta, following the opening of new Aer Lingus routes in 2024. Overall, we are excited to see what 2025 has to offer, and how the market will continue to grow in the year to come.”
