TAP celebrates five years of flights to three US destinations

TAP Air Portugal is giving a ‘High Five’ to a trio of its transatlantic routes, with flights to Chicago, San Francisco and Washington celebrating their five-year anniversaries this month.

In June 2019, TAP doubled its US destination offering, launching flights to Chicago, San Francisco and Washington D.C. from its Lisbon hub.

The first of the three new routes took to the skies on 1 June 2019, with the inaugural flight to Chicago departing Lisbon at 1:05pm local time, operated by the airline’s wide-bodied Airbus A330 aircraft.

The stunning city of San Francisco swiftly followed on 10 June 2019, with the flag carrier’s A330neo enabling customers to reach ‘the Golden City’ in just under 12 hours.

Flights to the US capital, Washington D.C., were also launched on 16 June 2019, marking an important connection with mainland Europe’s westernmost capital city, Lisbon.

In recognition of the anniversaries, TAP is set to host a ‘runway show’ at San Francisco’s iconic Aviation Museum, where the airline will give US customers the opportunity to see Cabin Crew uniforms from throughout the airline’s 77-year history.

Ricardo Dinis, TAP Air Portugal Country Manager for UK, Ireland and Nordics, said: “As we gear up for another busy summer across the Atlantic, we are proud to be celebrating the fifth anniversary of flights to Chicago, San Francisco and Washington D.C..

“To celebrate a trio of transatlantic anniversaries within the same month is an iconic moment in TAP’s history and reinforces our commitment to connecting Portugal to the world, and the world to Portugal.

“With our Lisbon hub conveniently located for travel from Europe to the US, these flights have proved popular and we look forward to welcoming more customers onboard our North American flights in the coming five years and beyond.”

Today, the Portuguese airline offers five flights per week to Chicago, daily flights to San Francisco, and double-daily flights to Washington D.C. from its Lisbon hub.

Other North American destinations served by the airline include Boston, Miami, Montreal, New York JFK and Toronto from Lisbon, in addition to flights from both Lisbon and Porto to Newark.

TAP also offers unrivalled connectivity across the Atlantic between Europe and Brazil, providing direct flights to 11 cities – nine of which aren’t served by any other European carrier.

British customers looking to make the most of TAP’s transatlantic travel can enjoy extremely competitive prices.

For no extra cost, customers can also enjoy TAP’s award-winning Stopover Program, allowing them to see the sights and sounds of Lisbon or Porto and break up their journey.

Boasting one of the youngest fleets in Europe, TAP operates a mix of short-haul and long-haul Airbus aircraft, from the state-of-the-art A330neo to the single-aisle A321LR.

This gives customers an enjoyable and comfortable experience across the Atlantic, with the added benefit of up to a 20% reduction in fuel burn and 50% reduction in noise when compared to the previous generation of aircraft.
