Sunway Majorca Marvels Discovery Tour with Travelbiz Continues

Marian Benton (Travelbiz) and Eileen Penrose (Sunway Tours) continue their magical discovery tour in Majorca with Sunway guides tours. We wake up to glorious sunshine and a free morning allows us to head into the markets in Palma or just relax by the beach. In the early afternoon we board our coach and, this time, we head to the east coast of this beautiful island. Our drive takes us through the second largest town in Majorca, Manacor. Initially known as the centre of the artificial pearl industry we know it latterly as the birthplace of Rafa Nadal and the location of the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy one of the premier tennis training centres in the world. A few familiar Irish faces spotted there but no tales on tour!

A short distance further on is the entrance to the Caves of Drach (the Dragon Caves). These limestone caves date back millions of years but were not truly brought to public attention until 1896 when Édouard Alfred Martel undertook an extensive survey which let to the eventual development of the caves into one of Majorca’s most popular tourist attractions drawing visitors from all around the world.

A walk through the illuminated chambers allows one to marvel at their natural beauty and incredible formations. It is truly spectacular, spiritual and otherworldly.  At the end of the walk the path leads to a large amphitheatre shaped cavern overlooking the glacial lake. As the lights are dimmed a number of candlelit boats glide past treating us to a live classical music performance greatly enhanced by the perfect acoustics in the cavern. We depart by rowing boat across the lake and exit into bright sunshine. This was one of the many highlights of this thoughtfully planned escorted tour.

We then drove the short distance to the stylish resort of Porto Cristo to see the quaint harbour currently dominated by Rafa Nadal’s large private yacht. Sadly Rafa was not on board to put the kettle on for us! We returned to the hotel for our final evening together.

Our late afternoon departure allows plenty of time for some last-minute shopping, a quick dip in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean or soaking up the last rays. As we reluctantly head for the airport it is clear that the group have thoroughly enjoyed their tour and feel they have gained an insight in the history, culture and nature of the island with experiences that would not have happened on a regular holiday. Our knowledgeable guide, Peter, added greatly to the enjoyment and was ably abetted by Sunway’s own tour manager, the irrepressible Eileen Penrose. Eileen left no stone unturned to ensure that every member of the group was looked after and had a memorable time. The dream team indeed!  If you feel you have missed out never fear, Sunway operate the same tour again on 4 October with some places still available.

Sunway operate a wide range of their own escorted tours. These carefully curated guided tours are meticulously planned and include flights, transfers, accommodation, excursions, a local expert guide and a Sunway Tour Manager for the duration. They are designed to allow one to see the best of the destination with just the right balance of experiences and free time. This was certainly our experience in marvellous Majorca.
