Spain – Murcia all you need is flow(ers)

The Region of Murcia hosts four spectacular flowering seasons between February and June, creating a unique seasonal and experiential tourism product. Each flowering represents an ephemeral landscape, a natural heritage, and a way of feeling the territory through slow, sensory, cultural, and gastronomic tourism.

The aim is to promote these flowering seasons as an active tourism product throughout the year, while also increasing the number of visitors to rural and inland areas and encouraging wellness and slow tourism with its own identity.

EXPERIENCE CALENDAR

February–March: Peach Blossom – Cieza

  • More than 1,000 hectares of blooming fields
  • Agricultural workshops, bike rides, and gastronomic events

February–March: Almond Blossom – Mula

  • Rural landscape among white hills
  • Cultural routes alongside the Castle of Mula and Argaric archaeological sites

March–April: Orange Blossom – Ricote Valley

  • Orange and lemon trees in bloom in Moorish landscapes
  • Aromatherapy workshops, traditional harvesting, and yoga in the orchards
  • Gastronomy with orange blossom essence: infusions, honey, and desserts

June: Lavender Bloom – Moratalla

  • Lavender fields in bloom in the high hamlets of the municipality
  • Essential oil distillation workshops and photographic routes
  • A focus on wellness tourism, calm, and medicinal nature

This year, the Region of Murcia has introduced as a novelty the Orange Blossom of the Azahar Valley, in the Ricote Valley.

When orange blossom perfumes the air, the Ricote Valley becomes a garden of sensations. The lemon blossom is a symbol of balance, spirituality, and inner beauty. Its fragrance envelops orchards, rivers, and magical corners, inviting visitors to enjoy the landscape with all their senses.

Yoga among lemon trees, agrotourism with excursions and visits to citrus farms, gastronomic experiences with tastings of paparajotes, and breathtaking views from privileged viewpoints are the proposals that Ulea, Villanueva del Río Segura, Ojós, and Ricote prepare every spring for those who come to experience their flowering season.

ECOTOURISM IN THE REGION OF MURCIA

Ecotourism involves contributing to the conservation of a natural area, enjoying it with minimal impact, and generating direct benefits for local communities. It is a way of traveling that combines experience, knowledge, sustainability, conservation, and local participation.

The Region of Murcia has just presented this product at FITUR.

Among the experiences offered by this product in the Region of Murcia are:

SIERRA ESPUÑA TERRITORY

The Snow Wells on the Summits of Sierra Espuña

The Sierra Espuña Territory is an enclave where nature and history are uniquely intertwined. This emblematic natural area breathes history in every corner of its dense forest, with the former trade and production of ice on its summits being a genuine activity worth discovering and enjoying.

Through this guided visit to the recently restored Snow Wells of Murcia, also declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), and a pleasant walk through the surroundings, visitors enjoy a remarkable experience that will not leave them indifferent.

The Sierra Espuña First Aid Kit

Help us recover this ancient popular wisdom. A special day where we will live like medieval alchemists and apothecaries. We will explore the traditional uses of medicinal plants from our surroundings, first learning to identify them in the field and later preparing remedies in our medieval laboratory.

Wildlife Photography Hides

The golden eagle is one of the most impressive birds of prey in Europe. Photo Logistics offers a hide to photograph this bird amid the magnificent landscapes of Sierra Espuña Natural Park.

Basket Maker for a Day

Learn the craftsmanship of our ancestors. Working with our hands connects us with a not-so-distant past and makes us feel special when we are able to transform branches into a useful and beautiful object.

We will work with different techniques and materials such as wicker, wood, and rattan.

Forest Therapy

Deep connection with nature, stress reduction, health, and creativity.

Forest bathing is a way of relating to nature that benefits health and encourages deeper exploration. A walk through the forest is not only physically beneficial but also psychologically healing. Numerous studies have shown that time spent in nature reduces mental fatigue, irritability, cortisol levels, and stress.

Inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese tradition of forest bathing, forest therapy trails usually have an approximate length of one and a half kilometers.
