Cleveland has not seen and eclipse like this in 200 years and it won’t see another one until 2444. People are coming from all over to see it.

A Blackout to Remember

The stars are literally aligning over The Land for a blackout you’ll never forget. On April 8, 2024, at 3:13 pm, Cleveland will be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. If you’ve never seen an eclipse, this is the only way to do it, as the moon will block out the sun for nearly four minutes – one of the longest durations of any major city in the path of totality.

“We’re treating this like a holiday, busy holiday — Memorial Day, Labor Day,” said Jacqueline Gerling, the Director of Communications for Cleveland Metroparks.

Bring the whole family – the dog included – for a day of celestial wonders with unobstructed views of the eclipse over Lake Erie that can be enjoyed from acres of gorgeous green spaces, with special kid-friendly science programming around Downtown Cleveland and beyond.

Gerling said they’re expecting tens of thousands of people at all 18 of their Metro Parks. Though they don’t have any events, all of their locations, including nature centers, golf courses and the zoo, will be open for regular hours, but camping out will not be allowed.

“We will have some of our naturalists on hand down at Edgewater Park who can talk with guests and explain to them exactly what’s taking place as we start to experience the solar eclipse,” said Gerling.

For parking, their advice is simple—get there early.

“There might be some restrictions to vehicle access once the parking lots reach capacity,” said Gerling.

The city also recommends the same with any location viewers are attending.

A total solar eclipse swept across a narrow portion of the contiguous United States from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.
