Good morning indeed from the opening day of Thai Travel Market in Bangkok held in the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Today, all the great and the good from travel and media sectors around the world converge to talk tourism and, currently, how to attract, welcome and encourage visitors to Thailand and maintain top class standards whilst being aware of our planet’s needs. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hugely encouraging of sustainable tourism and I’m going to immerse in their plans and strategies over the next few days. The Opening Ceremony was amazing – quite in keeping with Amazing Thailand. The stage setting was explosive with colour, costume and culture. All the dignitaries were present, but Khun Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya (Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications) stole the show with a wonderful presentation. His little ‘baby’, the delicious gastronomy of Thailand was properly showcased in a Culinary City and his new “motto” is Keep Calm and Curry On! An expansive area full of booths denoting various fields where food will be top and centre were demonstrated and ranged from individual restaurants, cooking schools, organic farms, local produce, bus food tours, tea gardens, DIY workshops covering dessert making, aromatherapy oils and massage and even talks from the country’s finest chefs. Joanna Cooke (Departure PR) has organised an interview with Khun Teerasil Tapen (Executive Director Europe, Africa & Middle East), so an update on facts, figures and plans is on the agenda. Stay tuned!
