Rock with American Holidays
Jacinta Mc Glynn (Travelbiz) rocks up to the Savoy cinema in Dublin as guest of American Holidays to a private screening of the ‘Elvis’ movie. Armed with drinks, canapes, snacks and goody bags galore, the theatre was packed and the audience tapping their feet with excitement. Ali Finnegan and her Travelmedia team played a blinder and Dee Burdock, Amanda and Bladhana from American Holidays were our ever generous hosts.
How lovely to be back with our travel colleagues again. ‘Elvis’ is directed by Baz Luhrmann who also co-wrote the screenplay and created a masterful piece of cinema. Austin Butler plays Elvis superbly well and stars in this epic spectacle portraying Elvis as the superstar he deservedly became. Another stellar performance from Tom Hanks as the enigmatic but ultimately self-serving Colonel Tom Parker and I was simply in awe at the level of prosthetic and cosmetic make-up required to make Mr Hanks almost unrecognisable! Elvis was truly rock ‘n roll at its finest. He grew up surrounded by blues and gospel music and one of his good friends, blues legend BB King, often said that there was not a drop of racism in Elvis and he was surely a white boy with a black man’s hips.
Elvis was an absolute legend. The King. Forget Heartbreak Hotel, this fabulous movie will break your heart instead. These iconic sounds of the Deep South are music to the ears of American Holidays who thrive on sending us to the wonderful US destinations of Memphis (home of Elvis Presley!); Nashville, Tennessee where the Grand ole Opry holds sway, New Orleans and the entire Mississippi Delta. Bladhana Richardson (Head of Marketing in American Holidays) certainly whetted our appetite for a tour of Graceland and beyond.
