Riviera Travel Highlights Strong Early Demand for Solo-Exclusive River Cruise Ship

Riviera Travel is driving strong early booking momentum for its MS George Eliot solo-exclusive programme, with peak 2027 departures already showing high demand following its original announcement last year.

The MS George Eliot, set to become the world’s first fully solo-exclusive river cruise ship from mid-2027, continues to generate significant interest from both agents and customers, with one of the first June 2027 departures already sold out.

The continued demand highlights the growing appetite for solo river cruising and presents a clear opportunity for agents to secure bookings early, particularly as availability tightens across peak travel dates.

Riviera Travel is also currently the only operator offering a full season of solo-specific sailings, including shoulder season departures, giving agents a strong point of difference when selling to customers seeking greater flexibility and value.

This includes sailings in traditionally under-served periods, allowing agents to broaden booking conversations beyond peak months while still offering a fully solo-exclusive experience.

The MS George Eliot has been specifically configured for solo travellers, offering a more spacious and sociable onboard environment, with every guest enjoying their own double cabin as standard and no single supplement across all departures.

The onboard experience has been designed to balance independence with social connection, including:

  • Double cabins for sole occupancy on every sailing
    • No single supplement
    • Curated excursions with expert Tour Managers
    • A more spacious onboard environment with fewer guests
    • A sociable atmosphere with like-minded travellers

The ship will operate a range of Riviera’s most popular itineraries across the Rhine, Moselle and Danube, with sailings available across the full season.

The solo-exclusive programme builds on Riviera’s continued investment in the solo market, with internal data showing:

  • 34% growth in solo bookings year-on-year
  • 51% growth in solo bookings through trade partners
  • 72% of the 2027 solo capacity for the MS George Eliot has been sold via the trade

Vicky Billing, Director of Trade, Partnerships & Loyalty UK & Ireland at Riviera Travel, comments:

“Since announcing the MS George Eliot as a fully solo-exclusive ship, we’ve seen consistently strong feedback from agents with clear demand from their customers looking for a dedicated solo experience on the rivers.”

“With peak departures already selling quickly and a full season of sailings available, including shoulder season dates, this gives our agent partners a really strong opportunity to drive early bookings and offer something that genuinely stands out in the market.”

Agents have responded positively to the product, particularly in its ability to remove common barriers such as single supplements, while offering a sociable and supported travel experience tailored specifically to solo guests.

The MS George Eliot solo-exclusive programme forms a key part of Riviera Travel’s long-term strategy to lead the solo travel sector, giving agents access to a distinctive and high-demand product ahead of the 2027 season.
