Over half a million set to travel through Dublin Airport this Bank Holiday weekend

More than half a million passengers are set to pass through Dublin Airport over the upcoming June bank holiday weekend.

Over the four-day period between Friday and Monday, a total of 503,000 passengers are forecast to fly in and out of the airport, including many thousands of tourists and visitors travelling to Ireland. Many residents of Ireland will also use the long weekend for city breaks and to visit loved ones overseas, while routes to sunny destinations are expected to be particularly busy, as the peak summer holiday season gets underway.

The busiest day of the weekend is set to be Sunday, with around 131,000 passengers expected, which could eclipse Dublin Airport’s busiest ever day (August 10th, 2025 – 130,427 passengers).

The coming week will also see the start of the exodus of football fans to North America for the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. While Ireland may have missed out on qualifying, Dublin Airport’s role as a hub airport with over 240 flights to 24 destinations in North America, will be well-utilised by fans of Scotland, England and European countries who will fly to North America via connecting flights through Dublin.

This Saturday, Dublin Airport will also set the Qatar national team on its way to the World Cup following their training camp and friendly against Ireland in Dublin. The Qatar team will depart Dublin aboard a 777-300ER plane, featuring a special FIFA World Cup livery, which is sure to attract aviation enthusiasts from all over the country to the various viewing spots around Dublin Airport.

Graeme McQueen, spokesperson for Dublin Airport, said: “The busy summer period has well and truly started at Dublin Airport and both our arrivals and departures halls are set to be very busy over the coming days. Every day from now until the end of August is likely to see us handle 100,000+ passengers and the team can’t wait to welcome everyone. Passengers can look forward to a busy but free-flowing airport, with lots of great choice awaiting them in the bars, lounges, cafes and shops in our terminals, including the newly-opened Bird Fired Chicken outlet in Terminal 2, as well as the new The Phoenix Lounge in Terminal 1, which is going down a storm with passengers.

“The arrival of around 250,000 passengers into Dublin Airport this weekend is good news for the hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants all around Ireland, providing a timely boost of tourists and visitors at the start of the busy summer season. Meanwhile, despite Ireland missing out on the World Cup, our departure gates are expected to be full of football fans from all across the UK and Europe over the coming weeks, as they take advantage of Ireland’s extensive route links into North America to support their countries at the World Cup,” added McQueen.

Passengers departing from Dublin Airport this weekend are reminded that the old 100ml liquids rule is no longer in place and they do not need to take their liquids, gels or electronics out of their hand luggage when going through security screening. However, passengers are reminded to check the security rules at the airport they’re flying back from, as their liquid limits may be different.

Passengers are advised to get to the airport two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours prior to a long-haul flight.
