Regrettably, our breaking story this afternoon equates to bad news for our Industry as we announce Niall McDonnell (Head of Sales Ireland Classic Collection Holidays), is to leave the business on 20th April. Niall has been with Classic Collection Holidays since the launch of the brand in 2016 and was instrumental in building the trade brand into one of the best known luxury tour operators in the market.

Niall has been in the industry for almost 30 years and during that time has successfully headed up a number of different tour operators, including Thomson Holidays, Airtours and most notably Panorama Holidays. He was also founding President of The Irish Tour Operators Federation and more recently headed up the Travel Partners Group.

Speaking exclusively with Travelbiz this afternoon Niall commented “Sadly my time with Classic Collection Holidays has come to an end. Our industry is going through an incredibly difficult time and unprecedented in terms of any challenge I have ever seen in the past. That said, I know that the calibre of people we have in our industry will make sure we bounce back. My passion for the industry remains as strong as ever and I intend to be part of the recovery process and look forward to seeing all my industry friends very soon.”

On a personal note, I have known Niall throughout my Travel Industry Career where we have shared the good and challenging times in various roles as competitors, trade partners, and on various trade focused committees. The global pandemic continues to ravage our Industry affecting the people who have been instrumental in the successful building of brands, new products and trade focused innovation. There is one thing for sure, Industry professionals of Niall’s calibre will be needed more than ever as we prepare for the rebound of our Industry. I know that Niall is already weighing up various options for the next chapter of his career in the industry.
