Travelbiz in the Costa Cálida region of Murcia
The Costa Cálida region of Murcia has a wealth of religious traditions, festivals and places to visit. Our media group enjoyed a visit to the town of Caravaca de la Cruz which is part of the Camino and it celebrates its Jubilee Holy Year in 2024. Caravaca is one of the five holy cities where a jubilee is celebrated in perpetuity along with Jerusalem, Rome, Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liébana. It has many interesting places to see such as the Basilica and Wine Horses Museum- both of which are “must see”.
No trip to Murcia would be complete without a visit to a winery. We had a guided tour of the La Balcona winery, a family business owned by 6 vine growing brothers and sisters who have carried on the tradition of their widowed grandmother, an entrepreneur way before her time. Here we had a wine tasting experience hosted by one of her granddaughters. We were joined by Mar Garcia Gallegos (Product Manager Región of Murcia TB) who put together our itinerary.
Before departing for the airport our exceptionally knowledgeable guide Carlos Rael arranged a quick visit to the city of Murcia, the capital of the region. The city is very walkable and has a wide variety of museums, outstanding monuments and theatres. The local taverns were busy with people sampling tapas but unfortunately we didn’t have any time to join them so it seems like a good reason to return. Our thanks to the Murcia Tourism Board and the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin for hosting us on such an informative and enjoyable fam trip.
