From Rock to Bach in Cleveland – The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Returns to Ohio

The city of Cleveland, Ohio, is getting ready to rock as it hosts the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on 19 October 2024, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. This year’s ceremony celebrates the people and the enduring legacy of rock and roll while shining a spotlight on the city’s rich and diverse music scene, which spans genres from rock to classical and everything in-between.

The 2024 class of inductees includes a stellar line-up of rock icons, including Ozzie Osbourne, Peter Frampton and Cher. The induction will honour legendary performers, songwriters, and producers, offering a night of unforgettable performances. A special exhibit at the museum, honouring this year’s inductees, the Class of 2024, will open just before the induction.

A City with a Musical Soul

As the city where the term rock & roll was coined, Cleveland’s vibrant music scene goes far beyond its association with iconic rock bands. Over the years, the city has emerged as a hub for diverse musical talent and genres, having hosted jazz legends, indie artists and hip-hop masters. The Cleveland Orchestra, considered one of the finest in the world, brings the works of classical composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart to life, offering a harmonious contrast to the electrifying energy of the city’s rock and jazz offerings.

Jazz lovers are well catered for in Cleveland with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Tri-C JazzFest. For 45 years, the annual Tri-C JazzFest has entertained jazz lovers every June, bringing celebrated and respected artists from around the country and the globe to Cleveland. The city is home to intimate jazz clubs and regular live performances at venues like The Bop Stop, where local and touring musicians keep the city’s jazz legacy thriving.

Whether it’s a live performance by a well-known musician or an up-and-coming artist, there’s no shortage of iconic music venues in and around the city. Concert venues – from the legendary Agora Theatre to the Beachland Ballroom and the Grog Shop – regularly host performances that span rock, indie, punk, blues, and hip-hop.

Cleveland’s independent record stores are an important part of the city’s music culture, offering a haven for vinyl enthusiasts and collectors. Stores like Britney Records and Blue Arrow Records stand out as local gems, each providing a unique experience for music lovers. Britney Records, located in the City Goods market in the Ohio City neighbourhood, is known for its eclectic mix of classic rock, indie, and obscure finds. Meanwhile, Blue Arrow Records, located in the funky Waterloo Arts District, is a haven for used vinyl and provides an opportunity to revisit decades of music history. The floor of this music house — embellished in shellacked record covers — is worth the visit alone.

As the city welcomes music lovers from all corners of the world, Cleveland’s message is clear: from rock to Bach, its music scene is alive and thriving, ready to celebrate the past, present, and future of sound.
