Irish Cabin Crew Member Shares Insight into Life, Travel, and Career Progression in Dubai.

Emirates will return to Ireland this winter to recruit new cabin crew members, with Open Days scheduled in Dublin and Cork. These sessions give prospective applicants a direct pathway into a global career that blends travel, service, and world-class training.

  • Upcoming Open Days:
    Sunday, 30 November 2025 at 9:00am – Hilton Dublin, Charlemont Place, Saint Kevin’s, Dublin 2 (D02 A893).
Monday, 15 December 2025 at 9:00am – The Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street, Victorian Quarter, Cork (T23 EEC3).

From Auckland to Amman – Sarah’s Stories from the Sky

For Dubliner Sarah Finlay, who has spent more than ten years flying with Emirates, the variety of destinations and experiences is what continues to energise her.

“Even after a decade, the novelty never wears off,” she says. “One week I might be walking the streets of Tokyo and the next I’m cycling around Amsterdam. Every roster feels like an opportunity to discover something new.”

Layovers are often the highlight of her month. “In Hong Kong I tried a pottery workshop with colleagues, and in Cape Town we watched the sunrise from the top of Table Mountain. You don’t just visit places you actually experience them properly. That’s the magic of the job.”

Back in Dubai, her downtime ranges from relaxing to adventurous. “Some days it’s a quiet morning at Kite Beach; others it’s dune bashing or zip-lining with friends. Dubai has this energy that makes it feel like more than a place I just work, it becomes a lifestyle. That was a big part of what drew me to Emirates.”

From Economy to First Class – A Career That Grows With You

Sarah now flies in Emirates’ flagship First Class cabin an achievement she says reflects the airline’s strong culture of development.

“From the moment I joined, I knew I wanted to progress, and Emirates gave me the training, mentorship, and encouragement to make that happen,” she says. “Working in First Class isn’t just a role it’s a responsibility and a privilege. You’re delivering the very best of what Emirates represents, and that pushes you to be at your professional best. The development opportunities are incredible, and the support you receive really empowers you to grow your career with purpose.”

Flying the Dublin–Dubai route remains a personal favourite. “There’s something so comforting about hearing familiar accents at 40,000 feet. Sometimes I even meet people from home it makes the world feel wonderfully small.”

Advice for Prospective Applicants

Sarah, originally from Tallaght, encourages anyone curious about the role to attend one of the upcoming Open Days.

“They’re looking for people who are warm, adaptable, and genuinely interested in helping others. Think of it as a chance to show who you are. Even now, ten years later, I still feel proud every time I put on the uniform.”

Training & Career Path

Successful candidates will relocate to Dubai and complete eight weeks of intensive training at Emirates’ state-of-the-art academy, covering safety, hospitality, service, and emergency procedures. From there, opportunities open across all cabin classes with potential to progress to senior, purser, and leadership positions.

Emirates currently operates three daily flights from Dublin to Dubai on its Boeing 777 aircraft, carrying up to 720 passengers each day. In October 2025, services increased from twice to three flights daily, offering morning, afternoon, and evening departures to keep up with the growing demand.

Benefits of Joining Emirates Cabin Crew

Emirates cabin crew enjoy a comprehensive package designed to support both lifestyle and career ambitions, including:

  • Furnished accommodation in Dubai with utilities included
  • Competitive, tax-free salary
  • Comprehensive medical cover
  • 30 days of annual leave
  • One free return ticket home each year
  • Highly discounted travel for family and friends
  • A multicultural workplace with colleagues from over 148 nationalities

A Fresh Fleet Experience for Passengers and Crew

Emirates is currently investing billions in retrofitting its Boeing 777 fleet with refreshed First Class suites, new Business Class seating, and upgraded interiors across all cabins. Dublin customers are already experiencing these enhancements on the route.

For Sarah, these updates make flying even more rewarding.
“Welcoming customers onboard is always a standout moment,” she says. “They’re beautiful, private, and incredibly comfortable. And I love seeing Irish touches on board from Voya amenities to Keogh’s crisps and Killoween yoghurts. It brings a little piece of home to the world.”

A Career Like No Other

Reflecting on her journey, Sarah says:
“Joining Emirates changed everything for me. I’ve seen places I only dreamed about, built lifelong friendships, and grown so much personally and professionally. It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure.”
