Dublin ranks as one of Delta’s Top 10 destinations for U.S. travellers

U.S. airline, Delta, is getting ready for its busiest-ever summer season in Ireland, with a new route from Dublin to Minneapolis and seasonal service from Shannon to New York-JFK starting in May. And, with new services on the horizon, Delta has revealed that Dublin has made the Top 10 in its most searched-for international destinations this summer for the very first time.

Gathered from Delta.com search data*, the destination list reveals cities on customers’ minds for summer travel between May and August 2024. Searches for the Top 10 international destinations for American travellers increased more than 150% from 2023, highlighting strong demand for international travel. Dublin featured eighth on the list, coming ahead of Barcelona and sharing a lineup of cities including London, Paris and Rome.

With up to 33 weekly flights, Delta expects to bring thousands more American visitors to Ireland, connecting them from 200+ destinations via Delta’s U.S. hubs in Atlanta, Boston, Minneapolis and New York-JFK to Dublin and via New York-JFK to Shannon. According to statistics from Tourism Ireland, 72% of US visitors to the island of Ireland are holidaymakers, who stay longer and spend more than other visitors, tour extensively and are high users of premium products. On average, US holidaymakers stay in Ireland for 8.5 nights and typically, they each spend €900/£783.

“We are excited to be expanding our footprint in Ireland next month, offering our customers a new Delta destination and more nonstop and one-stop travel options throughout the Americas from Ireland,” said Matteo Curcio, Delta’s Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India. “Delta’s convenient schedule between Ireland and the U.S. and the start of these new routes will boost trade and tourism opportunities here in Ireland thanks to thousands more available seats this summer.”

This summer, Delta will offer two points of entry to Ireland and will offer even more connections for our customers using Delta’s leading U.S. gateways.  Both Delta’s new Dublin to Minneapolis and Shannon to New York-JFK flights will operate using Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Customers will have a choice of four product experiences including Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.

Delta’s new Dublin to Minneapolis and Shannon to New York JFK services* will be operated in partnership with its European partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic and operate as follows:
