Dublin Airport Ready For A Great Summer

daa Unveils Eight Passenger Commitments For Summer.

Dublin Airport is ready to delight more than 10 million passengers this summer with a whole host of improvements and new additions in its two terminals.

Dublin Airport operator daa has confirmed details of eight commitments it is making to passengers ahead of the busy summer period, including a promise that at least 90% of passengers will get through security screening in under 20 minutes.

Between May and August, Dublin Airport is expecting more than 10 million passengers, ranging from sunseekers to business travellers and everything else in between.

Passengers have more choice than ever before to look forward to this summer at Dublin Airport, with up to 180 destinations and more than 2,600 departing flights per week on offer from 43 airlines.

Summer Travel Advice for Passengers

Passengers travelling over the coming months are advised to be in their terminal two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight.

While more than 50% of passengers will get to use one of the airport’s new C3 scanners this summer, airport operator daa is reminding travellers that security rules will remain the same until the scanner rollout is fully complete.

That means all passengers should still be prepared to remove all liquids, lotions and gels (under 100ml) and any electronic devices from their hand luggage when going through security screening over the coming months.

8 Summer Passenger Commitments

Ahead of summer, daa has outlined eight commitments that passengers can expect when travelling through Dublin Airport. These are:

  1. Security: at least 90% of passengers will get through security screening in less than 20 minutes.
  2. Scanners: more than 50% of passengers will pass through new C3 scanners as the rollout continues across T1 and T2.
  3. High customer service standard expected throughout: passenger satisfaction scores at Dublin Airport improved 37% in 2023 over 2022. The airport is targeting further improvements with more staff in place and focus on continuous improvements in standards for passengers in our terminals.
  4. Food and drink choice: 23 new food and drink options being rolled out in 2024 – 12 of which will be open pre-summer, with the remainder opening before Christmas.
  5. An airport for all: the addition of a second autism friendly sensory rooms in T1 and the refurbishment of the existing sensory room in T2, plus more entertainment for children throughout the airport.
  6. High standards: further improvements to toilets in T1 and T2.
  7. Seating: 350 new seats allocated to areas where they are most needed, bringing the total to 7,500 seats available across the two terminals.
  8. Easy Access: daa has committed to keep summer 2024 prices in line with summer 2023. daa continues to explore if alternative summer car park sites are possible and will keep passengers informed via the Dublin Airport website. As always, the advice to the public is to book early. At the same time, passengers are encouraged to consider the alternative travel options available, including one of the more than 1,000 bus departures from the airport every day.

Dublin Airport’s eight commitments build on daa’s 15-point Better Dub improvement plan, which was fully implemented last summer.

According to Dublin Airport Managing Director Gary McLean: “We’re always striving to make Dublin Airport better for passengers. We’ve been listening closely to passenger and staff feedback and have identified a whole host of improvements that will improve the passenger experience at Dublin Airport for the summer months and beyond.

“A busy hub like Dublin Airport, with upwards of 120,000 passengers passing through daily, has a lot to get right. We’ve added a new feedback feature on the Dublin Airport app and introduced a new Passenger Panel, which met for the first time last month, to help us identify pinch points for passengers. We’re now focused on removing these in time for summer, to help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for both arriving and departing passengers.”

Mr McLean said the addition of a second sensory room will come as great news to many families set to travel on holiday this summer. “Our existing sensory room in T2, which we’ve just upgraded to make it even better, is really popular with passengers and it makes good sense to add a new additional space in the busy T1.  Families have also been asking for more things for their kids to do while waiting for the flight, and we’re responding to that by adding toys and games on every pier in departures. The kids will be able to enjoy these new additions, while their parents enjoy a sit down on one our newly refurbished seats to enjoy something tasty from one of our new food and drink outlets. We’re sure these latest improvements will be a hit with passengers, and we can’t wait to welcome them this summer.”

Passengers are encouraged to download the Dublin Airport App, available via Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This helps passengers to navigate the airport including providing live departing and arriving flight information and real time security queue times. Passengers can also submit feedback to Dublin Airport via the app.
