daa Statement re Dublin Airport passenger cap legislation
daa has today (Tuesday, June 16) issued the following statement regarding the approval from Government for the publication of the Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Bill 2026.
According to Nick Cole, Deputy CEO of daa, the operator of Dublin Airport:
“Addressing the passenger cap at Dublin Airport is hugely important for Ireland and we welcome the action being taken by Minister Darragh O’Brien, which follows through on the commitment made in the Programme for Government to deal with the passenger cap issue as a matter of urgency.

“Securing approval from Government for the publication of the Dublin Airport (Passenger Capacity) Bill 2026 and progressing its enactment as soon as possible is a welcome step in the right direction to ensuring that Dublin Airport, in its role as the main gateway on and off the island of Ireland, has the capacity to meet clearly growing demand.
“The proposed legislation rightly recognises Dublin Airport’s role in supporting economic growth, connectivity and jobs across the State, and we welcome the Minister’s stated intention to enact the legislation before the summer recess.

“This legislation sets out a clear process for resolving the cap issue. We welcome it and will play our part as it moves forward, while continuing to work closely with other stakeholders to advance our live Infrastructure Application, which is currently being assessed by Fingal County Council. Our planning application will enable us to increase the passenger cap and deliver capacity-enhancing projects, including new piers and aircraft stands, along with a new Integrated Transport Hub.

“We look forward to engaging constructively with the Minister and all stakeholders as the legislation progresses through the Oireachtas.”
