Congratulations! Its half a century achieved for Michael Doorley and Shandon Travel

It’s a big Travelbiz Congratulations to one of my oldest travel industry colleagues and friends Micheal Doorley, as he celebrates fifty years in business this week! The good news on this amazing achievement is that Michael’s term in business now matches his golfing handicap.

Shandon Travel was established in 1974 when Michael opened the first Shandon Travel branch on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork, starting with just one employee. Over the next 50 years, the company grew significantly, acquiring two other travel agencies and expanding to offices at Dublin Airport, Clonakilty, and Bantry. The company’s headquarters is now located on Grand Parade, directly opposite the English Market, where 13 highly skilled and experienced staff members are dedicated to helping customers find the perfect travel deals.

Operating under the West Cork Travel brand, Shandon Travel’s two West Cork locations feature experienced local teams in Clonakilty (led by Manager Rose, with Caroline and Lynda) and Bantry (managed by Dianne, with Nicola and Clare). These teams are proud to serve a loyal customer base.

In addition to these expansions, Shandon Travel has diversified with additional brands, including The Cruise Centre, Family Holiday Centre, and Sayit Travel. The company is widely recognized within the travel industry as a leading authority on all aspects of travel.

It’s an amazing achievement given the never-ending challenges the retail sector faces on a daily basis, not to mention our very own sector which has had its fair share of good and bad times. The willingness to change, embrace technology and diversify has been Shandon Travels backbone of success and never-ending journey to expand and explore new horizons.
