Celebration of 20 years of Ryanair to Spain
His Excellency, Sr Idelfonso Castro, Ireland’s charming Spanish Ambassador celebrated another incredible landmark last week in the glorious surrounds of his Embassy Residence in Ballsbridge, Dublin. Marking 20 years of Ryanair’s flights into Spain and lauding their contribution to Spain’s economy and society, Eddie Wilson (Ryanair’s CEO) joined His Excellency Sr Castro and both spoke glowingly of the mutual success of this partnership. Spectacular statistics of 400 million passengers carried by Ryanair into Spain between 2002 and 2020 are astonishing enough and Eddie Wilson was delighted to join the platform today to celebrate this symbiotic arrangement.
Ryanair has contributed 14 billion euro to Spain’s economy and the importance of massive openings in various airports throughout the country cannot be minimised. Indeed, His Excellency, Sr Castro congratulated Ryanair for their innovative flight departures into his own home city of Santiago de Compostela and, as a proud Galician, he hopes the route will continue to prosper! We enjoyed an in-depth presentation before retiring to the delightful gardens for refreshments – as you do! Marvellous hosts, our Spanish friends never fail to entertain and we enjoyed the company of Joe Gilmore (MD Ireland West Airport), Eoghan Corry (Air & Travel) and many colleagues from the industry. It was the usual salubrious affair at the Ambassador’s Residence and much of this made possible through the hardworking offices of Ruben Lopez (Director Spanish Tourist Office) and his hardworking team Kathryn, Sara and Marina. Gracias a todos!
