AWTE Celebrates International Women’s Day

#awte #internationalwomensday AWTE Ireland – Association of Women Travel Executives Ireland #Travelbizconnect

Jacinta from Travelbiz joined a band of professional women in the travel business to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. Seas Suas Mna na h’Eireann! Yip, stand up, Women of Ireland and Women internationally to carry this year’s theme “Inspire Inclusion”. The Association of Women Travel Executives here is always on the ball to promote exceptional women in the travel trade in Ireland and, with Chairperson Ciara Foley at her eloquent best, the event in Dublin’s Café en Seine was no exception and was a real celebration of women’s success, drive and ambition.

A novel sherry and cheese tasting reception, hosted by Ana from Diputacion de Cadiz and the Spanish Tourist Office Dublin (with Ruben Lopez as Director), went down a storm. These headline sponsors are incredibly supportive and much appreciated by AWTE and there was a splendid prize of a 3 night stay B/B in Cadiz (a fabulous city, by the way!). Intrepid Travel sponsored 2 places on their exciting Morocco expedition; Susan Maxwell (MD of the gorgeous Ruby Sue collection) sponsored a delightful gift set; Bookabed/TBO sponsored the entertainment and 1:1 Digital Strategy Call with Mc Cullagh Digital was on offer. Sharon Thompson, guest speaker of the day (Thompson Travel International) regaled us with the story of her extraordinary career climb – inspirational for sure. ….

We lunched, we chatted, we networked and we enjoyed that unique female camaraderie and, I suppose, we did admit at least one fine man to the inner circle! Ruben Lopez (Director of Spanish TO in Dublin) spoke of his huge support for women in the workplace and how Spain is very forward thinking in this area. The only cloud on the afternoon’s proceedings was Ruben’s bombshell that he is to leave us (Ireland, that it!) in mid-summer when his tenure ends. Our great loss and Madrid’s gain. This gentleman will be truly missed.

Well done Ciara and her hardworking team at AWTE for a great afternoon.
