Air Canada lines up for take-off with new Porto to Montréal route

#Traveltradetogether

The new direct service is set to depart Porto for the first time on 5 June 2025.

Air Canada, Canada’s largest airline and flag carrier, is gearing up for take-off with its bumper summer schedule, including a new route between Porto and Montréal.

The global airline is set to touchdown in Portugal’s second city, Porto, for the first time on 5 June 2025, before departing for its home hub, Montréal, later that same day.

The new international service, complementing existing flights from Lisbon, aims to offer customers easy access to Canada and beyond, while also bringing tourists and business travellers alike into Portugal and the wider Iberian Peninsula.

Situated at the edge of Europe, Porto’s prime position offers customers easy access across the Atlantic, with the new service aimed not only at Portuguese travellers, but also those in northern Spanish regions such as Galicia, which lack direct connections to North America.

Flights on this new summer seasonal route will operate three times per week, departing Porto each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon, arriving into Quebec in just over seven hours*.

On the return, flights depart Montréal each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening, before arriving into Porto the following morning.

Customers looking to cross the Atlantic in style can benefit from this new service until 30 September 2025, with flights operated by the airline’s fleet of A330-300s offering a choice of either Premium Economy or Economy.

Jose Antonio Blazquez Ballarin, Air Canada’s Country Manager Sales, Spain & Portugal, said: “Here at Air Canada, we are already counting down the days till take-off, as we get ready to open our newest route between Portugal and Canada.

“As the leading airline between Europe and Canada, our mission has always been to offer customers the most convenient connections across the Atlantic, opening up opportunities for tourism and business, and this new route signals our commitment to the market.

“With just over two months to go, we are excited to welcome onboard not only customers based in Porto, but also those across Galicia, and the wider Iberian Peninsula, supporting our existing operations in Barcelona, Lisbon and Madrid.”

Élise Racicot, Ambassador of Canada to Portugal, said: “We are delighted to witness the expansion of Air Canada’s operations in Portugal, particularly with the introduction of the new route to Porto. This new air link will undoubtedly further strengthen the friendship between our two countries, bringing communities closer together and fostering the interpersonal and business ties that are essential to our bilateral relationship.”

Karen Strougo, Chief Commercial Officer of ANA | VINCI Airports, said: “We welcome Air Canada to Porto Airport. This new connection is a clear sign of the region’s growing attractiveness, further strengthening the connectivity between Porto and North America. The return of a major airline like Air Canada is also a recognition of the hard work of ANA | VINCI Airports’ teams and route development strategy, reinforcing the airport’s importance and growth while creating opportunities for passengers and for the economic development of the northern region.”

Those looking to make the most of this milestone can book return flights from Porto from as little as €388 in Economy, including taxes and charges, thanks to the airline’s recently launched sale aimed at celebrating the final countdown. These special fares are available when booking between now and 14 April, for travel between 8-30 June and 25 Aug-30 September.

Known for its blend of European charm and North American attitude, Montréal boasts world-class history, cultural diversity, culinary riches and artistic creativity.

Situated in the French speaking province of Quebec, Montréal is Canada’s second largest city, offering travellers a wealth of leading attractions. Visitors can explore landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, walk along the historic Old Port, and savour the city’s world-famous bagels and poutine.

The metropolis is also home to the Montreal Jazz Festival and Just For Laughs comedy festivals, the largest of their kind globally, while the city is also perfect for those seeking the need for speed, thanks to the annual Canadian Grand Prix, held on 15 June this year.

This summer, Air Canada will offer up to 42 weekly flights from the Iberian Peninsula to Canada, including routes from Barcelona, Lisbon and Madrid to Montréal & Toronto, in addition to the new Porto to Montréal service.

Alongside smooth connections to a wide range of cities across Canada, the airline’s global network offers customers convenient options to connect via Canada to destinations in the US, Caribbean, South America and Mexico.

Those flying through Air Canada’s hubs to the U.S. also benefit from US customs preclearance, allowing travellers to pre-clear all US immigration and customs formalities pre-departure, and therefore arrive in the US as a domestic passenger.
