Aer Lingus unveils new Express Bag Drop kiosks for convenient two-minute drop-off

Powered by the airline’s enhanced mobile app, the kiosks reflect the airline’s ongoing commitment to digital innovation.

Aer Lingus has launched Express Bag Drop kiosks, designed to give customers who check in online a quicker, more seamless journey through the airport. Powered by the Aer Lingus mobile app, the new two-step process lets passengers tag and drop their checked bags in under two minutes.

Using Airware technology, the kiosks put customers in control. With nearly 80% of Aer Lingus customers now checking in online, the Express Bag Drop option available to them is a simple process:

  1. Scan the QR code on the kiosk using the Aer Lingus app to print your bag tag.
  2. Drop your bag at the designated area, scan it, and head straight to the departure gates.

This innovation means customers have more time to relax before their flight.

Express Bag Drop kiosks are currently available in Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport, and at Belfast City Airport for Aer Lingus Regional customers. They’ll also be introduced at Cork Airport in the coming months. The kiosks are designed for ease of use and convenience, and ground staff are also available to assist first-time users and ensure a smooth experience.

This launch reflects Aer Lingus’ broader commitment to digital innovation, following the recent refresh of its mobile app, with the addition of new features such as gate notifications and real-time flight updates. The Aer Lingus app is among the highest-rated travel apps in the App Store.

Making every journey smoother for customers, Aer Lingus continues to offer a free 10kg checked bag on all European flights*, allowing customers to breeze through the airport without worrying about overhead locker space. The airline has also increased the size allowance for personal items such as laptops, handbags and briefcases to 40×30×20cm, which represents a volume increase of more than 40% from previous dimensions.

Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer, said: “Our new Express Bag Drop kiosks, combined with our refreshed Aer Lingus mobile app, reflect our commitment to intuitive technology and customer-focused design. We know our customers want control over their journey, from checking in online at home to being guided to their gate by the app. Express Bag Drop is another innovation that saves time and ensures a smooth airport experience.

“These enhancements, along with our continued promise of a free 10kg checked bag on European flights, demonstrate our focus on making travel seamless and simple, from check-in to arrival.”

*A10kg bag can be checked in for free on Aer Lingus flights within Europe. On Aer Lingus Regional flights – operated by Emerald Airlines – customers can bring a 7kg carry-on bag which can be stowed in the overhead lockers. Carry-on Baggage – Aer Lingus
