A Taste of Royalty
Jacinta (Travelbiz) attended a wine tasting event at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic at Merrion Square in Dublin. At the invitation of His Excellency Mr Andrej Droba. The Habsburg Winery pushed the boat out (and the bottles!) and we enjoyed some delicious wines throughout the afternoon. We are probably all au fait with the golden era of the Royal Habsburg Dynasty from our history lessons and the respect and influence the monarchy (Empress Maria Theresa) exerted over the region. So too the Habsburg Winery emulates top quality and old traditions in their products.
The Habsburg Dynasty represented enlightenment and the Winery follows a path to aspire to the highest ideals in wine production. Located near the former summer residence of the monarchy near the village of Skalica in the beautiful Slovakian countryside and vine growing area of Zahorie, the multi award winning wines are just another reason to visit stunning Slovakia. Specialising in white and rose wines and with the delightful company of Kevin O’Higgins (Solicitor), Stephen Collins (Irish Times) and Lukas Celko (honey specialist), we tasted Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Veltliner and Gewurztraminer. Choosing a favourite was difficult! Ambassador, H.E. Mr Andrej Droba, is utterly charming and welcomed us and strongly encouraged travel to Slovakia. Of course, the capital of Slovakia, the little gem of Bratislava on the banks of the mighty Danube, is a must-see visitor attraction, but a sojourn to the Habsburg Winery is highly recommended and is guaranteed a happy ending!
