Tasting your way through New York City

#Traveltradetogether

Don made his way through Chelsea Market, the High Line, Market 57, Hudson yards in Manhattan and Jackson Heights in the borough of Queens, eating. drinking, meeting new people and experiencing a diverse range of cuisines with Like a local tours and Turnstile tours. (Links below for more information) Don takes this opportunity to share his experience with you in Chelsea and the borough of Queens as a guest of New York City Tourism and Conventions last week.

What a great and highly cost-effective way to explore, meet new people and experience a diverse range of cuisines in New York! Both “Like a local tours” and “Turnstile tours” offer a great range of taste your way through New York tours for you to recommend to your clients. (Re above Links)

My first tasting tour was in the Chelsea Market a short 10-minute subway ride (Buy a MetroCard for Subway and buses) from downtown Manhattan or for the more energetic types, you can head for Hudson Yards and walk the highline directly to the Market. You would need to allow yourself approximately 45 minutes, but it’s a great walk, especially in glorious New York Spring sunshine. Michelle from “Like a local Tours” brought us to all of her top tasting house stops in the Chelsea Market and Market 57 at Pier 57.

Our mouthwatering diverse Food Stops included:

Filaga Pizza: Experience the magic of New York-style pizza at Filaga Pizza, a local favourite.

Takumi Taco: Journey into the fusion world of mouthwatering tacos, where diverse flavous collide. (My Favourite)

Joey Bats: try a taste of Portugal right here in NYC with these delicious “Pastéis de Natas”, delicious mini tarts!

Doughnuttery Doughnuts: Satiate your sweet tooth with scrumptious mini doughnuts, a bite-sized delight.

Nom Wah: a LES favourite since 1920, now in Chelsea! Taste their famous dumplings.

Local Roots: wash all the yummy food down with a special Boba Tea treat!

Later that day, having done over 20,000 burn it all off steps, I made my way to the Borough of Queens to the really funky and lively Jackson Heights, which embraces over 170 different languages resulting in an amazing range of food truck stops for all to enjoy.

Turnstile Tours, like the guys in Like a Local tours, are passionate about the history of the industry with Five percent of all Food Cart Tour ticket sales are donated to the Street Vendor Project.

Although the weather turned into a typical Irish day with lots of rain it did not dampen our enthusiasm and appetite as we made our way through five truck and restaurant stops sampling the past, present and future of New York Street vending and tasting.

We enjoyed food (and beer) from Colombian arepas, hot Himalayan momo, flavourful Bengali fushka, and much more! My personal favourite was the Columbian arepas and cold beer.

I would highly recommend these tours as a way of exploring parts of New York City which may not appear on your radar and sampling an amazing range of incredible food that will set your taste buds into I want more mode! A must see and taste.
