Finnair notches up numerical milestones in centenary year

The Nordic airline’s 100-year celebrations in numbers.

Finnair’s entry into the ‘centenary club’ in November 2023 marked a year of major numerical milestones for the newly 100-year-old Finnish flag-carrier, with more than 40 celebratory events held across 40 countries and 19 cities.

These involved Finnair’s more than 3,400 employees, as the world’s sixth oldest – and still operating – airline also welcomed over 1,700 school children and students to its hangars to explore the world of aviation.

Finnair’s sweet-toothed flyers consumed more than half a million of the Finnair 100 fudge sweets, 20,000 Business Class pralines and 35,000 aircraft-themed candy bags handed out to customers. Meanwhile, fliers visiting the airline’s lounges in Helsinki enjoyed a slice or two of the 5,500 cake pieces on offer.

Finnair also served one million litres of its iconic blueberry juice to tens of thousands of customers flying daily with the carrier during 2023. Additionally, 50,000 copies of the one-off print edition of Finnair’s online inflight magazine, Blue Wings, were distributed onboard and in airport lounges.

Throughout the year, Finnair customers shared thousands of travel tips, with hundreds posted on the airline’s social media channels. Elsewhere, the carrier flew Santa Claus to six countries to meet Finnair customers and to visit local charities and children.

In 2024, two of Finnair’s A350s will continue to sport the centenary liveries featuring popular cartoon TV characters from The Moomins, Finland’s much-loved storybook friends for the one and only Finnair.
